The promise of forgiveness.
Forgiveness is looking through to the Light.
In our world, we perceive that we are forgiving actions and people. This gives rise to a somewhat half kind of forgiveness. We leave the acts and the people in tact while we say that we forgive those acts and those people.
In other forms of forgiveness, we offer compassion. We understand the confusion that leads to undesirable states and actions, and we extend a compassionate stance toward them. This can sometimes still leave us with the uncomfortable feeling that those acts and those people are something in need of fixing or changing. They can remain in our mind along with their troubles, as some kind of reality.
In a higher form of forgiveness, like that taught in A Course In Miracles, we are invited to look through what we are assured is illusion and to see the reality beyond. To have the Spirit in us show us what is really there, to reveal to us the truth beyond the picture. This form of forgiveness offers much greater satisfaction, as it doesn’t leave us with the impression that what we see with our physical eyes has an ultimate truth to it. It doesn’t leave our minds peopled with figures and acts in need of saving. It leaves our mind in a state of peace having dissolved the seeming reality of figures that would be deeply troubling to continue to hold as real.
The Practice
In the Practice of One, we have pointed many times to the fact that our bodies eyes do not see what is there. We have pointed to science as well which tells us that what we see has no ultimate reality—that it is finite sense and thus illusory. Science is telling us that there is really only one substance, something some are terming consciousness and others terming light.
As we move about in our world, let us be mindful that what you see is not really what you get. But what you get is in fact what you focus on. So let us focus on the high form of forgiveness that leaves our mind in peace. The high form of forgiveness that dissolves the disturbing figures and acts into the nothingness they always were. We have everything to gain in our doing this. We have our very Self returned to our awareness. We have love raining over our mind. We have peace stabilizing as our home.
